Why Rennes for a romantic weekend?
Rennes has everything you need for a weekend for two without feeling like you are following a tourist route. The historic centre is compact and entirely walkable. The restaurants are good without being pretentious. The atmosphere is that of a city that lives, not a city performing for tourists.
And from Paris, it is 1h30 by direct TGV from Montparnasse. No airport, no rental car unless you want one. You arrive in the city centre, and you leave from the city centre.
Where to stay: the option that changes everything
There are hotels. And there is Love Horizons — a fully private suite, perched 90 metres high in the Tour des Horizons, in the heart of Rennes. Panoramic views over the whole city, double spa bath facing the windows, hammam with chromotherapy, king-size bed, audio system with 80,000 tracks.
No other couple in the suite during your stay. Personal welcome on arrival. It is only a few minutes on foot from the station — you drop your bags, and the suite does the rest.
Friday evening: arrive and let go
Arrival is from 3 p.m. If you take the TGV after work, you can be in Rennes before 9 p.m. No need for a complicated programme: the suite is ready, the city is below you, and everything else can wait until tomorrow.
If you want to have dinner in town before going up: Place Sainte-Anne and the surrounding streets bring together some of Rennes’ best tables — Breton cuisine, natural bistros, gastronomic restaurants. Everything is within walking distance from the suite.
Saturday morning: Marché des Lices
Marché des Lices is one of the largest open-air markets in France. It takes place every Saturday morning, five minutes on foot from Love Horizons. Cheese, crêpes, cider, flowers, fish from the coast — this is Rennes waking up early and smelling wonderful. A moment not to miss when you are here on a Saturday.
Saturday afternoon: get lost in old Rennes
Rennes’ historic centre is one of the best-preserved in Brittany. The half-timbered houses of the Sainte-Anne district date back to the 16th and 17th centuries, the streets are narrow and the cafés are everywhere. It is the kind of neighbourhood where you stop for no reason, sit on a terrace and let time slow down.
- Parc du Thabor — French-style gardens, rose garden, view over the city. Ideal for a walk as a couple;
- The Sainte-Anne district — medieval streets, galleries, terraces;
- Canal Saint-Martin — peaceful walk along the water.
The surroundings: leave for half a day
Rennes is ideally located to explore the region without spending your whole day in transport. A few ideas depending on your mood:
- Saint-Malo — 1 hour by train from Rennes station. Ramparts, beaches, sea air. There are even direct trains from Paris if you want to extend the escape by the coast.
- Dinard — just opposite Saint-Malo, across the Rance. Belle Époque villas, Écluse beach, Promenade du Clair de Lune. A softer, more nostalgic atmosphere.
- Dinan — 1 hour by car. One of the best-preserved medieval towns in Brittany, with ramparts, a port and cobbled streets. Perfect for an afternoon out of time.
- Mont Saint-Michel — 1h15 by car from Rennes. One of the most spectacular sites in France, even more striking as a couple and outside peak season. An excursion you remember.
- Fougères — 45 minutes by car or train. Its medieval castle is one of the largest in Europe. Underrated, calm, ideal for couples who want to leave the beaten path.
- Brocéliande Forest — 30 minutes by car. Lake, trails, Arthurian legends. We can point you towards car rental agencies near the station if needed.

What Rennes offers that other cities do not
A successful romantic weekend is not necessarily the furthest or the most expensive. It is the one where you have nothing to manage — where the setting does the work for you, where you are not drowned in tourism, where you feel you have discovered something few people know.
Rennes is that kind of city. And Love Horizons is the place that reveals it in a way no hotel can.
